GET READY. HE’S COMING BACK.

For a while now, readers have been asking me the same question:

“When’s the next Hogarth book?”

The answer is: soon.

Very soon.

And because you’ve followed Hogarth through murders, gangsters, cold cases, betrayals and more than a few dark Essex mornings, I thought you deserved an early look.

The new novel begins nine days after a certain Alex Galvan walks free.

Hogarth isn’t taking it well.

Enjoy this exclusive preview:

DAY ONE.

Hogarth had been driving the seafront since before six. There wasn’t much point in telling anyone about his latest habit. If he’d been able to explain it, he probably wouldn’t have been doing it in the first place.
Sometimes his dark thoughts followed him into bed and stayed there. On such mornings, the only thing to do was get up, get in the car and drive. To keep moving. To push on and hope they fell behind as he launched into a new day.
Whisky was for evenings.
The car was for mornings.
But lately, neither one had done him much good.
Nine Days.
Alex Galvan – son of the old Essex kingpin Doug – had been free for nine days, and in that time, he had done nothing more alarming than collect his dry cleaning from Leigh Road, eat at the Marbella Club, and smile at anyone who looked at him.
Nine days of a free man living a free life.
So far, Hogarth had nothing provable and nothing to act on. He felt the deep frustration of a man who knew exactly what he was looking at and yet couldn’t touch any of it.
So, instead, he did what he could.
He drove.

He was heading back through Leigh on the London Road when the duty sergeant, Halliday, called him on his mobile. It was 6.18 am.
Hogarth answered without thinking.
He processed the news almost before he’d finished listening.
With Galvan on the loose, it was the kind of news he’d been expecting for every one of the past nine days.
A body had been found in a car parked on Western Esplanade.
There was a PC on the scene.
The pathologist was on his way.
Natural causes suspected.
“Okay, Halliday. Tell them I’m on my way,” Hogarth said.

The rest is coming soon… Buckle up, and get ready for another dark and gritty visit to your favourite Essex coastal town. Be warned. This is no day trip. This is the beginning of an intense new journey. Get ready Hogarth in THE HARD BREAK.

It won’t be long. And if you need to catch up with any of his previous adventures, then now is the perfect time to dive in.
